McAfee is offering unlimited online backup services for its customers. The premier security company is providing the service on an annual subscription basis.

Aside from the backup service, McAfee is also launching a special support forum. This community will be available for consumers seeking support and solutions for the service. The forum will be rolled out in the fourth quarter.

Availability of the Service

The online backup service will be made available for consumers in the United States. The service costs $59.99 per user per single computer. The online backup system is powered by Mozy’s backup infrastructure.

Customers will get unlimited virtual space for file and data backups. The performance of the file transmission will depend largely on the performance of the user’s internet service provider.

Other countries from Europe, Asia and the Pacific, and South America will also be given access to the backup service of McAfee by the fourth quarter.

How the Backup Service Works?

According to McAfee, your data will be encrypted in order to ensure security. This will be stored on a remote data center and can be restored anytime by the user in the event that data loss occurred.

Another feature of the online backup service is its incremental backup functionality. The system will look for files that were not updated since the last backup operation.

The backup service is fully compatible with the security suite provided by McAfee. It can also work with other products and suites of other security vendors.

The Online Forum Support System

The backup service will be supported by an online forum. This another web service provided by McAfee for its customers. The support forum is powered by Jive software. As of now, the online support forum does not have an address or a name yet. The support forum will be unveiled in October.

There are indications that McAfee will simply repurpose the existing McAfee community forum. McAfee executive noted however that the security company is still undecided yet if it will repurpose the existing community support forum.

There are indications though that the new forum will serve as a complement to the existing support-services of McAfee. The security company is noticing that users of their products are more inclined to seek support from an online community or social media to fix simple problems.

Purpose of the Forum

There are questions that McAfee is trying to cut costs by introducing an online support service forum for customers. The company however is denying this.

According to McAfee, the online community support forum and service will be moderated by company staff and experts. Through the support forum, customers will be able to provide lots of feedback to the company. Questions can also be resolved through the forum.

Customers are also given the chance to suggest features and discuss upcoming products and services of McAfee. The staff and IT personnel of the security firm will try to answer questions of forum members to resolve issues and problems.

With the introduction of online support forum, McAfee is aiming to establish closer relationship and interaction with its customer base.
