The search engine war is heating up as Google introduces nine new search options tools for users. The move of Google is seen as a response to the challenge posed by Microsoft’s Bing search engine. With the new search tools, Google is definitely trying to keep its dominance in the search market.
The new shiny tools will enable users to further manipulate and massage the search results. According to the company, the search tools can greatly help users to quickly get what they want from the search engine.
Tracing the Development of Google's Search Options
Google's enhanced search options were first released to the public in May. The search options are actually a collection of different tools. The tools were designed to allow users to manipulate the information that they want to get. The search company has called it slicing and dicing the information. Through the new tools, users will not struggle anymore on choosing the right query to use.
Basically, the first release was engineered as a filtering option. So if you only want to get information from forum sites, then you can filter the results in this manner. You can also pull out information that has been indexed for the past week only.
Shiny and Nifty Additions to the Search Options
The latest release of Google Search Options further expanded the capabilities of the initial version. You can now narrow down the search results and pull out information indexed for the past hour. You can also filter pages that you have visited already of get pages that you already visited, whatever you fancy.
As a nice addition to the filtering capability of Google's Search Options, you can now limit your search to news sites only, blogs only, or books. And if you want to limit the number of commercial websites on the results, you will have the power to limit the appearance of shopping sites or commercial pages.
Obviously, getting fresh information is one of the biggest benefits of the new Google Search Options. By taking advantage of this tool, you will be able to see the most updated indexed sites or get information from a specific time frame.
The Challenge of Microsoft's Bing
The new search tools released by Google came on the heels of a latest report released Nielsen Co. According to Nielsen, Bing, the rejuvenated search engine of Microsoft, grew by 22.1 percent from July to August. The growth is unprecedented in the search market. In fact, Microsoft's Bing is now touted as the fastest growing search engine.
Microsoft is not taking chances in its search engine war with Google. It is regularly adding nice features to Bing. The software giant is hoping to give Google some serious challenges.
For example, Microsoft released its new search tool called Visual Search. The tool will enable you to browse through image galleries instead of the customary text results. Visual Search earned good points from technology experts and users.
The search war is heating up. Google is upping the ante with its new search options but Microsoft is poised to launch another frontal assault by partnering with another search giant Yahoo.
