When it comes to outsourcing, the first thing that comes to mind for many people is that the key benefit of it is a decrease in personnel cost. However, it is better to think that the cost reduction is an often achieved driving force and not really the key benefit that you get. There are actually five different and very important benefits that you can consider when it comes to outsourcing.

First, you have an increase in expertise. Once you outsource from a company which is solely focused on a key area (such as information technology, transcription, billing or marketing) you will learn that they gain an increase in knowledge and a heightened expertise level in that particular area. With outsourcing, there is always a key resource and particular area of expertise that you can rely on when you need new ideas and suggestions or answers to questions.

Second, outsourcing brings with it a competitive advantage. A lot of small time medical practitioners cannot really afford hiring the same kind of expertise level in the same area compared to the bigger and more successful counterparts. In the competitive medical industry of today, this will hurt your business. Thanks to outsourcing, the competitive advantage is improved and it will open your practice to the same kind of access to the level of expertise, service and efficiency like what the larger medical practitioners have.

The third key benefit of outsourcing is the management of resources. While you do maintain a certain level of managerial responsibility for whatever it is that you wish to outsource, you get to decrease the time, energy and effort necessary to manage the resources. To illustrate, let’s pretend there are five clerks assigned to your billing department and this is the department you want to outsource. Usually, there is a single contact point in the billing company and there will be one person held responsible for the performance standards. Now, you just have to manage one person instead of five.

Fourth, there is also a key benefit in management focus. Since there is only one person in charge of one aspect in your work, it becomes much easier to get things done. Some tasks which are related to that area are most likely perpetually found on your to-do list. This time, however, you can assign this to your partner in outsourcing so you can instead turn your attention to other things in the list. This allows you to do the most important parts in just a shorter period compared to before.

And finally, there is also a risk reduction benefit in outsourcing. What will you do if there are important employees that need to go on leave or be absent for some reason for long periods of time? The work is usually reassigned till this person gets back. Since you do not have other options, doing so is risky for your business because the work might not get done properly. With outsourcing, someone always assumes the workload.
