Planning is the first step that you have to do when creating a website. Identifying the purpose of the website and building the site structure are critical areas that should be considered during the planning stages.

Once you identified site purpose and structure, then it would be easier to determine the specific requirements of your website. In this area, you have to consider database development, network architecture, and backup support. All these are critical factors that will ensure the success of your website.

In building site structure, the first step that you have to do is to create a logical folder structure. Your applications and files will be stored in these folders. So if you have a well organized folder structure, maintaining your website applications will be easier.

The folder structure can be further subdivided into main directories and sub-directories. You need to properly separate these directories so you can logically organize your web files and applications.

Part of the process of web programming is the development of database. You need to create layers of database for storing files and data. You should also create separate layers for the servicing components of your website.

An important part of website development is setting the relationship between server and browser. The behaviour of your website may depend primarily on the type of server being used. Meanwhile, the codes of your website can be influenced by the specific browser that will support your site.

Setting up web security is also an important task during web programming. Companies that process sensitive user information and facilitate web transactions will certainly need a higher level of web security. Websites with internal applications that can be accessed directly by users should also have higher degree of web security. These applications should also get constant support from the web programmers.

In web programming, identifying the needs of the users should be your primary concern. Once you identify the needs of the users, it would be much easier for you to develop the right website interface. The interface should conform to the purpose of the website to make it more relevant to users.

Database development is also a big consideration. However, this task is primarily dictated by the type of hardware that should be used. Other important considerations for database development are size of the database, disaster recovery, security, and networking.

After everything has been set-up, you are now ready to choose which type of programming language is perfect for your website. You can use HTML, which is the standard web programming language recognized by almost all browsers. You can use plain text to code HTML and build a fully functional website.

Other web programming languages include XHTML, XML, PHP, and JavaScript. These are more complicated languages than HTML but they will allow you to build highly interactive websites.

Another common web language that has become very popular is Flash. Flash technology will enable you to build stunning websites with highly interactive user interface. It can produce animated graphics and compelling web page presentations.
